STiLGONE
With a sound they call “dirtbag psychedelic soul,” Montana’s STiLGONE combines elements of funk, soul, hip-hop, and psychedelic rock into a style that is both distinctive and accessible. Their influences span from Stevie Wonder and D’Angelo to Sly Stone, Hendrix, and Black Sabbath, giving their music a balance of groove, grit, and depth. The band’s songs reflect whatever they’re feeling in the moment—sometimes rooted in storytelling, other times more abstract—but always anchored by soulful delivery.
Led by Symon Palmer, whose voice bridges smooth singing and pointed rap, STiLGONE has been steadily building their presence through years of live shows and recordings. Their new album, À la Mode, captures the heart of their sound, offering listeners the same consistent, soulful energy that fans have come to expect from their performances.
B.O.L.O. is the debut album from STiLGONE. After years of playing live shows around Montana, and multiple changes in the lineup, the band teamed up with Mellow Mike to record a selection of original tunes for the first batch. The first takes of the songs were recorded in the basement of then-drummer Keelan Evins and was later finished up at the home where Symon and Mellow stayed.
STiLGONE has since made some more changes to the band’s lineup, and concocted a new batch of songs for the fans entitled A La Mode. Recorded, mixed, and mastered by Ben Morris at the Dojo in Butte, MT, this whopper of an album even received its own pressing of vinyl. The band stays busy playing live, especially during the summer. I highly recommend seeing them play live at least once, you’ll be hooked.
