Symon Palmer
Montana’s music scene has no shortage of voices, but few are as unique as Symon Palmer, formerly known as Floyd Simmons. A singer, rapper, and songwriter with a gift for weaving personal stories into soulful, psychedelic grooves, his music captures both grit and vulnerability, pulling from influences like D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder. His collaborations with producers Mellow Mike (Varsity Blues) and Twelve Clouds (blue.wav) stands as proof of his ability to craft honest, heartfelt work that lingers long after it’s heard.
Though Symon has had some solo material released, his main creative home in recent years has been STiLGoNE, a 'dirtbag psychedelic soul' band where he’s been able to stretch his artistry even further. Balancing groove-heavy funk with sharp lyricism, the band has given him a platform to showcase his range as both a frontman and storyteller. For those in the know, Symon Palmer remains one of Montana’s most compelling hidden gems.
Varsity Blues is the first full collaboration between Symon Palmer and Mellow, fully created while living together over the course of two weeks. While Mellow made the beats, Symon would usually be sitting on the couch behind him playing with words and testing out different deliveries. After the initial two weeks however, the duo lost steam and took a long break before returning to mix and master the songs.
